In California, students under 18 must obtain a work permit to be employed.

Head over to the Career Center in Room P-2 for more information!

    • Step 1: Secure a job offer.
    • Step 2: Complete the work permit application.
    • Step 3: Submit the application to the Career Center in Room P-2.
    • Step 4: Obtain approval.
    • Must be under 18 years old and enrolled in school.
    • Maintain a minimum GPA (often 2.0 or higher).
    • Have good school attendance and behavior.
    • Be employed in a legal job (certain jobs, like newspaper delivery or working for parents, may have different rules).
    • Work Permits are typically valid for the school year and must be renewed when they expire.
    • Students cannot work during school hours unless enrolled in a work experience education program.
    • For more information, visit the California Department of Education’s Work Permits for Students webpage.
    • Remember, obtaining a work permit is a privilege that comes with responsibilities.  Ensure that your academic performance and your attendance meet the school’s requirements to maintain eligibility.
